Labrador Pioneer Footpath

The Labrador Pioneer Footpath hiking trail is an ongoing project of the SLDA. Work will continue this year (2024) on trail upgrades and enhancements between L'Anse au Clair and Pinware. This will be our third year of work. We plan to extend the trail to Red Bay in the next phase of the project.

Phase 1 of the project (2021-22) included construction of a new trail section from the Quebec-Labrador border to meet with the Jersey Trail. Phase 1 also included signage/branding/marketing concepts and signage fabrication.

Phase 2 (2023-24) will see extensive trail upgrades from L'Anse au Clair to Pinware.

Phase 3 (2025) will be the Pinware to Red Bay section.

The Labrador Pioneer Footpath is the first trail system in Labrador to join the national Trans Canada Trail (also called the Great Trail). This will help establish the Labrador Pioneer Footpath as a first-class trail destination, and bring a significant boost to the growing Labrador Straits tourism industry.
